William Townsend hath illegally absented himselfe from his Masters Service fiftie nine daies & that foure hundred & fourtie pounds of tobacco was expended in regaining him It is therefore Ordered that he Serve his said Master halfe a yeare being for the chardges expended & one hundred and eighteen daies double the time of his running away as alsoe make good by Service what chardges his said master is at in defraying officers fees as sheriffs & Clerks dues Source: York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills (6) 57. 24 August 1679 Mr Willm Coman haveing made appeare to this Court that Edward Bendall his Servant did absent himselfe a long tyme by runing away into Maryland, and alsoe makeing it appeare that he was at a very great charge in recovering of him. It is ordered that the said Edward Bendall Serve his Said Master or assignes one yeare after the expiracon of his tyme by Indenture or Custome, being in full Satisfaccon for Neglact of tyme & other charges in recovering him. Source: York County Deeds, Orders, and Wills (6) 375. 26 June 1682 Whereas Thomas Ashby Servt: to John Page Esqr hath been absent & runaway from his said Masters service a very considerable time and whereas it manifestly appearing that the said Coll Page lost & carried away by the said Ashby & his accomplices a Considerable quantity of goods & money And also that said John Page Esqr hath been at a very great & Extraordinary charge in the recovery of him It is therefore Ordered that he ye said Thomas Ashby after his time by Indenture or Custome is Expired serve the said John Page Esqr for & dureing ye space of two whole years & forty weeks. Hooker Mary Ditton & Mary Howlett Servts unto Capt James Archer did long absent and runaway in the Company of A Negroe from the house of their sd Master wth goods and other things, to a Considerable vallue, which they in open Court Acknowledging and whereas it appearing by Wittnesses & Certificates that the said Capt. Archer hath bin at very great Charge in the retakeing of them, which being Computed & Stated according to the Act of Assembly & usuall allowance for his goods and Charges It is ordered that the said Jno.
